Project Durham Bulls #2: Robinson Chirinos

Robinson Chirinos - 2011 Durham Bulls

Background-
Chirinos appeared in 78 games for the 2011 Durham Bulls posting a .259/.343/.376 slash line with 6 home runs, 13 doubles, and 24 RBIs.  The catcher was originally signed by the Cubs as a free agent out of Venezuela in 2000 as a 16 year old.  After 10 seasons in the Cubs Minor League system he was traded to the Rays with Chris Archer, Hak Ju Lee, and Brandon Guyer for Matt Garza.  It was a pretty good trade for the Rays.  Chirinos eventually made his way to Texas and has played the last four seasons with the Rangers as a backup catcher.

Card-
You can always count on Bowman to make cards of young prospects, but at the time this card was made Chirinos was is in his mid 20s and had only played 12 games at Double A when this card was made in 2010.  I am glad that Topps included Chirinos in a checklist, even gave him an autographed card, just a little surprised that it happened.  The only bad thing about this card is the fact that the Bowman Chrome cards sometimes are terrible scans.

    1. The Cubs got a pretty good haul back from Texas for him. Not all bad.
